{"id":19170,"date":"2026-03-16T04:14:38","date_gmt":"2026-03-15T18:14:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.billkochman.com\/Blog\/?p=19170"},"modified":"2026-03-16T04:14:38","modified_gmt":"2026-03-15T18:14:38","slug":"prodigal-son-a-poem-by-bill-kochman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.billkochman.com\/Blog\/index.php\/prodigal-son-a-poem-by-bill-kochman\/","title":{"rendered":"PRODIGAL SON &#8212; a poem and song by BBB"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.billkochman.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/prodigal-son-optimized.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1350\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39511\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.billkochman.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/prodigal-son-optimized.png 1080w, https:\/\/www.billkochman.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/prodigal-son-optimized-557x696.png 557w, https:\/\/www.billkochman.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/prodigal-son-optimized-768x960.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>#Poetry #Poem<\/p>\n<p>PRODIGAL SON    <\/p>\n<p>by Bill Kochman<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Bill's Bible Basics Poetry and Songs\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billkochman.com\/Poetry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.billkochman.com\/Poetry<\/a><\/p>\n<p>11-05-2023<\/p>\n<p>Once there was a foolish man,<br \/>\nThe youngest son of a father,<br \/>\nWith those things of the Spirit,<br \/>\nHe just did not wish to bother.<\/p>\n<p>Then there came a certain day,<br \/>\nHe said, Give my share to me,<br \/>\nPa, I am so tired of living here,<br \/>\nThe whole world I want to see.<\/p>\n<p>So gathering all of his things,<br \/>\nOff to a foreign land he went,<br \/>\nWhere he lived so wastefully,<br \/>\nTill all his money he had spent.<\/p>\n<p>But alas, a great famine came,<br \/>\nHe had not with which to dine,<br \/>\nBut by chance he found a job,<br \/>\nIn the fields he fed the swine.<\/p>\n<p>At last he came to his senses,<br \/>\nAs hunger ripped thru his soul,<br \/>\nWhy must I suffer in this place,<br \/>\nPa\u2019s hired men have a full bowl.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, I\u2019ll go back to my father,<br \/>\nAnd I\u2019ll humbly confess my sin,<br \/>\nNo longer worthy to be his son,<br \/>\nAs his servant I\u2019ll beg to begin.<\/p>\n<p>So the young man went home,<br \/>\nAnd pa saw him as he came,<br \/>\nHe kissed his son on his neck,<br \/>\nBut upon him he cast no blame.<\/p>\n<p>The bewildered man then said,<br \/>\nI sinned against heaven &#038; thee,<br \/>\nFather, my sin is so very great,<br \/>\nYour son I am not worthy to be.<\/p>\n<p>But his pa would not hear of it,<br \/>\nHe gave him shoes, robe &#038; ring,<br \/>\nHe ordered a fatted calf be killed,<br \/>\nSo they could all dine and sing.<\/p>\n<p>And as they all did merrily eat,<br \/>\nHe said, this my son was dead,<br \/>\nHe was not being very spiritual,<br \/>\nWorldly things so filled his head.<\/p>\n<p>But behold now he is alive again,<br \/>\nWhereas before he was just lost,<br \/>\nThus I have given him this feast,<br \/>\nYou see I haven\u2019t spare any cost.<\/p>\n<p>While the merriments occurred,<br \/>\nElder son arrived from the field,<br \/>\nA servant told him everything,<br \/>\nWith anger his heart then filled.<\/p>\n<p>Elder son refused to go inside,<br \/>\nSo pa came outside to speak,<br \/>\nBut overtaken by so much rage,<br \/>\nSon\u2019s jealousy reached its peak.<\/p>\n<p>Pa, I have served you all my life,<br \/>\nAnd did everything as you wish,<br \/>\nYet despite being so loyal to you<br \/>\nI never got a special meaty dish.<\/p>\n<p>Yet my brother comes from afar,<br \/>\nHaving wasted all that you gave,<br \/>\nHe\u2019s just not worthy of this feast,<br \/>\nYou should make him your slave!<\/p>\n<p>So father looked at him pitifully,<br \/>\nAnd said, All that I have is yours,<br \/>\nYour brother is alive and found,<br \/>\nSo it was right to open our doors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>#Poetry #Poem PRODIGAL SON by Bill Kochman https:\/\/www.billkochman.com\/Poetry 11-05-2023 Once there was a foolish man, The youngest son of a father, With those things of the Spirit, He just did not wish to bother.
