Some of you are undoubtedly aware of the line drawings -- or geoglyphs -- that were discovered on a high plateau in the arid Nazca Desert of southern Peru during the 1930's. As you may know, these drawings number in the hundreds, and portray a wide variety of figures, including monkeys, hummingbirds, spiders, sharks, llamas, and lizards. Some of them measure over six hundred and sixty feet in width, and almost eight hundred and ninety feet in length. These geoglyphs cover a land area of about one hundred and ninety square miles.

The construction of these geoglyphs is actually quite simple. The surface of the Nazca Desert is covered with a thick layer of reddish-brown pebbles. These pebbles derive their color from an outer iron oxide coating. Using rather simple tools, the people of Nazca simply dug ditches, from four to twelve inches deep, which exposed the lighter-colored earth beneath, thus creating their now-famous drawings.

In spite of the passage of time -- they are believed to have been created by the Nazca people between 400 and 650 AD -- the geoglyphs of Nazca have remained well-preserved, due in large part to the dry, windless climate of the region. In fact, the Nazca Desert is one of the driest deserts on our planet, and maintains a year-round temperature average of about seventy-seven degrees Fahrenheit.

Contrary to the general consensus amongst modern scientists and academia that the geoglyphs of Nazca could easily have been created by the Nazca people, using technology that was available to them at the time, there are some people -- such as controversial Swiss author Erich von Daniken, who wrote "Chariots of the Gods" and many other similarly-themed books -- who insist that the geoglyphs of Nazca could not have been constructed without aerial assistance. In other words, they point to alien intervention -- extraterrestrial beings -- and believe that the geoglyphs of Nazca were part of an ancient airfield that was specifically designed for alien spacecraft. They believe that the Nazca people erroneously mistook these alien visitors for gods, and worshipped them as such.

Personally, I don't know why a technologically-advanced alien species would be so interested in assisting a primitive race in creating such elementary drawings in the ground. Of course, it has been suggested by certain UFO-oriented cults -- such as the dangerously deceptive Raelians -- that upon realizing that early humans mistook them for gods, these "aliens" chose to take on that role, as a way to earn the respect of humans. In other words, the "aliens" purposely resorted to deception.

If this surprises you, consider some of the other beliefs of the Raelians, as expounded by their founder Claude Maurice Marcel Vorilhon -- a.k.a. Rael -- in his books. According to Rael, there is no eternal, loving, all-powerful Being whom we Christians refer to as God. Rael claims that the "elohim" of the Bible were actually a technologically-advanced alien race whose scientists arrived on the Earth some 25,000 years ago, in order to conduct a series of genetic experiments and create life here; in their own image no less. According to Rael, these so-called "elohim" mastered the process of life and death millennia ago, and no longer die in the sense that we humans understand it. In other words, when one body grows old and wears out, the "elohim" simply transfer their memory and personality to a new body. In this way, the "elohim" who were alive 25,000 years ago, are still alive today. Such is the deception of some of these New Age cults, so beware!

Please note that Erich von Daniken's followers and Vorilhon's followers are by no means the only UFO cultists who embrace these kinds of alien intervention myths. As I explain in some of my other articles and series, which are centered on this very topic, such as the "Nature of the Alien" series, based on an in-depth study of the alien-UFO phenomenon I personally undertook a number of years ago, I came to realize that there are -- according to UFO adherents -- many species of "aliens" visiting our planet today. As with humans, these UFO cultists claim that some of these "extraterrestrials" are benevolent, while others are downright deceptive, evil and bent on doing harm to the human race.

Some of these races -- so say the UFO cultists -- such as the reptilian-like Grays -- who are also referred to as the Zeta Reticulans -- promote the very same aforementioned lies. In other words, the Grays likewise claim to be our creators. But that is not all. Similar to the so-called "elohim", they not only claim to have introduced all of the different religions to the people of Earth, but they also claim that they created Jesus Christ. So again, please beware!

And then there is controversial author Zecharia Sitchin. As you may know, for many years prior to his death in 2010, Mr. Sitchin wrote a series of books in which he heavily promoted his belief that the ancient Sumerians -- and by extension, the entire human race -- were the result of intervention by a technologically-advanced, extraterrestrial race which he referred to as the Annunaki. As I explain in such articles as "The Nibiru Planet X Wormwood Controversy", according to Zecharia Sitchin, this alien race inhabits a planet which he referred to as Nibiru. Nibiru -- at least so say Sitchin and his many followers -- is a part of our own Solar System; but because of its elongated, elliptical orbit, is not normally observable from our area of Space, and only passes near the Earth once every 3,600 years. Sitchin's misguided followers believe that Nibiru is due to make a pass near the Earth in the near future, which may result in cataclysmic changes on the Earth.

As one would expect, Sitchin's alien intervention theory has never been embraced by traditional scientists and academia; even though his books -- which number over one dozen -- have sold millions of copies worldwide, and have been translated into more than twenty-five different languages. Of course, as we all know, popularity doesn't necessarily define the truth; and we should all be aware of deception in our modern day. Even the Apostles warned of such things so long ago, as we see by these verses:

"That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:"


"Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein."


"As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do."


"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;"


"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;"


Allow me to point out that the Annunaki, who are mentioned in the writings of Zecharia Sitchin, and who are also known as the Anunna, Anunnaku, and Ananaki, were in actuality a group of Sumerian, Akkadian and Babylonian deities who are best known due to their mention in the "Enuma Elish"; which in English is known as the Babylonian Creation Myth, or the Epic of Creation. According to this ancient tale, the human race was created at Eridu, which is a city that was located in the southernmost portion of Iraq, in a region which the Bible refers to as the land of the Chaldees. Nestled against the Persian Gulf, the land of Chaldea was known for its fire worshippers, astronomers, astrologers and priests. Chaldea may have also been the home of the three magi, or wise men, who visited the young Jesus in the New Testament narratives.

The city of Eridu itself was believed to have been founded by the Sumerian god Enki. This deity was also known to the Akkadians and the Babylonians as Ea. Eridu was located about twelve kilometers from Ur, and certain archeologists contend that Eridu might possibly be the oldest city in the world. Concerning the Chaldean city of Ur, as you may recall from the Bible, it was the Patriarch Abraham's hometown, which suggests that Abraham was of Chaldean/Babylonian descent. Consider these verses:

"And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees. And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah. But Sarai was barren; she had no child. And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there."


"And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it."


"Thou art the LORD the God, who didst choose Abram, and broughtest him forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gavest him the name of Abraham;"


So, what we plainly see then is that Abraham was a Chaldean, or a Babylonian, who chose to forsake his family, as well as his ancestral land, and ultimately his former religion, in order to obey the Lord, and become the father of the nation of Israel.

Some people hold the view that the Creation Account that is found in the Book of Genesis may be derived at least in part from the Enuma Elish. While there are similarities between these two accounts, I am not fully convinced of this view at the current time. However, I'll admit that if we consider the fact that Abraham was clearly a native of what some scholars view as the cradle of the human race -- even going so far as to posit that the Garden of Eden was located near Eridu at the junction of three rivers -- as well as the fact that the Jews spent seventy years under Babylonian bondage, it should come as no surprise to us that their religious beliefs were influenced to some degree by the Babylonian religious system, just as they had been by Egyptian beliefs centuries earlier. In fact, as I explain in other articles, such as "The Fruits of Disobedience", it was their spiritual waywardness that got the Jews in trouble with the Lord so many times.

But returning to our main topic of discussion, it seems that everywhere we turn these days, someone is trying to inject an alien intervention story into human history. As I explain in the in-depth series "Nephilim: The Giants of Genesis", we see the same thing happening with some of the ancient monuments which have been discovered around the world. As you may know, some of these ancient structures are built with huge blocks of stone, which are so neatly and so closely placed together, that even some archeologists are baffled by them. All kinds of theories have been proposed regarding how the ancient ones were able to move and elevate such monolithic structures, and UFO cultists have contributed their thoughts as well, such as with the case of the pyramids of Egypt.

While some people have proposed an alien intervention theory as a way to explain how the Egyptians were able to obtain and elevate such huge blocks from distant quarries, personally, I have my doubts about this theory. One obvious question which seems to expose the weakness of the alien intervention theory is this: If some, or all, of the ancient pyramids were built by an alien race, why is it that, to our knowledge at least, the only mummified remains to be found in such pyramids are of regular human beings? Why would aliens be interested in burying humans in pyramids? What could they possibly hope to gain from such activities?

A more plausible theory, which even the Scriptures appear to support, is that ancient Egyptian cities and pyramids were built in part using human slave labor. It has been proposed that the ancient builders of the pyramids simply constructed tiers of sand around the pyramids, as they rose higher and higher in the sky, thus enabling them to mount one block upon another as the project progressed, using pulleys, and perhaps other mechanisms, along with brute human strength, under the threat of a taskmaster's whip. Once the capstone was put in place, the slaves would work in reverse by removing the tiers of sand, until the completed pyramid was fully exposed. In my opinion, this seems like a rather logical explanation of the events, that doesn't require an alien intervention theory of any kind. Consider these verses which are found in the Book of Exodus:

"Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph. And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we: Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land. Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses. But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel. And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour: And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour."


In conclusion then, I urge everyone reading this to please be very careful regarding this popular desire to attribute things and events to some kind of an alien intervention, simply because we are not able to understand them at this current time, or grasp how certain things were accomplished. This life is full of so many mysteries, some of which we may never understand, at least not in this current life. Perhaps in God's chosen time, He will reveal more to us. I honestly don't know. We'll just have to wait and see.

At the same time, please understand that there is nothing wrong with being curious. It is a part of our human nature, and it helps us to learn and to grow. In fact, I can attest to the fact that the many articles and series which I have written over the years, are in large part a result of my own personal curiosity regarding things. In particular, my desire to understand the ways of God and things that pertain to the Scriptures, has motivated me to investigate and study a wide variety of topics and issues, in order to hopefully arrive at the truth. As I have traveled down my own personal road of discovery, I hope that you have been blessed by some of the things which I have written during this time, and that you have increased in both knowledge and wisdom, as well as in your effectiveness for, and obedience to, the Lord.
