Recently, I listened to a speech given by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. In his speech, Kennedy stated that no stone would be left unturned in his department's efforts to end chronic disease. Hoping to not come across as a pessimist, personally, I tend to be more of a realist. As such, while Mr. Kennedy's speech was a very nice, sincere-sounding, positive message, I think it is rather naive to believe that they'll ever truly end chronic disease. I think that may be why in his post, the Secretary states that they will "make an effort". In other words, my suspicion is that Kennedy already knows in his heart that it is a next-to-impossible task to overcome chronic disease due to a wide variety of reasons. I would like to mention what I personally view as one of the primary reasons.

As has been said many times before -- I am obviously not the only one who is aware of these matters -- the actual goal of certain people within the pharmaceutical industry -- and I'll likewise include the health insurance industry, as well as an unscrupulous sector of the medical profession -- isn't really to cure anyone of any known disease or affliction. In fact, I made the same point in another recent new BBB article called "This Old Body: My Health Story". After all, my friends, such entities don't make as much of a profit off of healthy people, do they? At least the corrupt pharmaceutical industry and some doctors don't. The health insurance industry operates in the exact opposite way. They actually prefer healthy people over sick people, because with sick people, they have to pay out more money, while with healthier people they don't. So do see how that works?

So, it's my firm belief that with many of such entities that are associated with the pharmaceutical industry, the medical profession and the health insurance industry, their primary goal is in large part to simply assist you in managing your pain, and in enduring your illnesses. The cold, hard fact of the matter is that they WANT and NEED lifetime customers who remain totally dependent on -- and in fact very addicted to -- their drugs. In the case of some doctors and pharmacies, they want you to keep coming back again and again to get a refill on your drugs. Again, that is the plain, simple truth as I have personally experienced it, and I imagine many of my readers have too.

My friends, let's just be very honest here. That is precisely how they earn their profit -- by keeping you sick and helping to drag you along from one illness to the next -- and just as I point out in "This Old Body: My Health Story" where I talk about the last doctor I had until I left him three years ago, a lot of corrupt, money-minded doctors go right along with this unscrupulous scheme, because they probably get kickbacks with every product they convince you to purchase, and every drug they convince you to take. Have you experienced this in your own life?

And believe me, my friends, some of those doctors will even resort to using the fear tactic to try to convince you that you need to start taking a certain drug. "If you don't take this drug, this might happen to you. If you don't take that drug, you might someday just land in the hospital! If you don't begin taking this drug right away, the symptoms will come right back again and you will be a lot worse off than before! If you want to stay alive longer, you really need to start taking this drug!" Oh yes! They will fill you with fear! And eventually, many people will succumb to such overt tactics and adopt the attitude "Well, he IS the doctor, so SURELY he must know what he is talking about. I better just take his advice and do it." So how many times have YOU heard that kind of talk from your own doctor? Raise your hands, please.

Seriously think about this, my dear friends. We are now in the opening years of the second quarter of the 21st century, and yet look how long some of these chronic illnesses have been with us with no cure in sight, even though they have been promised to us in some cases for literally decades. So that being the case, don't you think that it is high time to wake up to the obvious truth regarding this situation, no matter how ugly and disgusting it may be? On a related note, I really have to wonder how many cures and health solutions may be available to the rich, the powerful and the elite, which are never made available to us lowly peons who are at the bottom of the social ladder as far as they're concerned.

Now, please understand that while I've exposed the bad apples in the previous paragraphs, that does NOT mean -- and neither am I implying -- that ever single medical professional is like that. Of course there are a lot of good ones who are honestly dedicated to their profession for the right reasons. In other words, they really do want to help people the best they can with the knowledge that they possess, and the medical tools which are at their disposal. Anyone who serves in a position which honestly assists humanity -- and this includes outside of the areas I have discussed -- should be both honored and respected. But again, we still need to be careful and watch out for the ones who get their eyes more on the money than on helping people improve their lives.

But aside from all of the previous things I have discussed, as I mention in articles such as "Death: Final Battle, Final Victory" and a number of related articles, we also need to recognize that as much as we may not like it, pain, sickness, suffering and eventually death, are also a very natural yet tragic part of our human existence on this Earth which were first introduced into the world through the sin of Adam and Eve. For example, you may recall that the Apostles Paul and James wrote as follows in their various Epistles:

"Wherefore, as by one man [Adam] sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:"
Romans 5:12, KJV

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Romans 6:23, KJV

"The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law."
1 Corinthians 15:56, KJV

"Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."
James 1:15, KJV

As many of my older readers will undoubtedly know from their own personal experiences, as we enter the final years of our pilgrimage on this Earth, while none of us look forward to such sad things happening in our lives, we often times find ourselves confronted with more life-threatening situations as our bodies begin to break down due to time and usage. Our eyes grow dim and tired, and are sometimes even plagued with cataracts. Cholesterol and clogged arteries become a serious issue which earlier in our lives we never once considered. Memory also sometimes becomes unreliable as we suddenly find ourselves in a battle against time and Alzheimer's disease.

But that is not all. Oh no. The battle that is waged against our aging flesh does not end there. As if that isn't already enough, different types of cancers begin attacking our body. Sometimes different organs -- such as our heart, kidneys and pancreas -- begin to malfunction. Our back slowly grows weak and bent, and our bones likewise lose mass and weaken. It is as if our strength is sapped from our bodies upon doing the smallest of tasks. On the minor side, we become conscious of going bald as our hair slowly begins to thin.

Thus, growing old gracefully is not always the easiest thing to do, is it? Yet despite all of this, God somehow gives us the Grace to endure it all, and to maintain a very positive attitude despite all of the various physical changes which may be occurring with us. Not only that, but as the Apostle Paul also wrote in his first Epistle to the Corinthians, it is through our very personal weaknesses and afflictions that God can be glorified even more. Consider the following Bible verses and take heart:

"And he said unto me, MY GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR THEE: FOR MY STRENGTH IS MADE PERFECT IN WEAKNESS. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: FOR WHEN I AM WEAK, THEN AM I STRONG."
2 Corinthians 12:9-10, KJV

"But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen THE WEAK THINGS of the world to confound the things which are mighty;"
1 Corinthians 1:27, KJV

"We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; WE ARE WEAK, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised."
1 Corinthians 4:10, KJV

"For his [Paul's] letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but HIS BODILY PRESENCE IS WEAK, and his speech contemptible."
2 Corinthians 10:10, KJV

Thus we see, dear friends, that while in the days of our youth we were so full of strength, and carried ourselves with pride and self-confidence -- at least worldly people do -- we are suddenly forced to acknowledge the weakness, vulnerability and frailty of our human condition. We humbly recognize that we are truly only dust. We are as the grass that turns brown and eventually withers, or as a green leaf that fades as the cold winter approaches. Our life is but as a cloud which only appears for a little time in the sky and then vanishes in the distance. Consider the following group of Bible verses:

"For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust."
Psalm 103:14, KJV

"The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever."
Isaiah 40:6-8, KJV

"Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away."
James 4:14, KJV

"The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away."
Psalm 90:10, KJV

"Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away."
Psalm 144:4, KJV

"But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?"
Luke 12:20, KJV

"It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."
John 6:63, KJV

"Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready."
John 7:6, KJV

"Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you."
1 Peter 1:23-25, KJV

Now, while some of my readers may not agree with me, it is my personal view that sin has a direct physical effect on our bodies, perhaps even down to the cellular level. I've even considered the possibility that sin may have a direct and negative effect on our genetic code, so that our body wears out, grows old and eventually dies. Regardless of whether or not this point is actually true, nevertheless, the bottom line remains that as the Bible plainly informs us, we are all appointed to die, because the wages of sin is death.

As we all know, no matter what humanity tries to do to slow it down, or to avoid it altogether -- as if such a thing is really even possible -- there is simply no escaping it. Why not? Because as I already stated, physical death is simply an inescapable part of God's natural plan and order. But we can thank God that there is hope of life after death if we, through an act of faith, believe in the atoning Sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Please consider the following set of Bible verses:

"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:"
Hebrews 9:27, KJV

"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand."
John 10:28, KJV

"All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out."
John 6:37, KJV

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
John 3:16, KJV

"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"
John 1:12, KJV

My friends, please understand that the previous verses are NOT just merely meaningless words in an old Book which many people don't even bother to read anymore. Those verses are in fact God's promise to us. They are Jesus' promise to us. They are saying "If you believe, then you WILL receive the Gift of Salvation and Eternal Life!" There is nothing vague about this wonderful promise from God. As the Apostle John also wrote in his first Epistle:

"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; THAT YE MAY KNOW THAT YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.‭"
1 John 5:13, KJV

But exactly how can we know that this is really true? Quite simply, because God is clearly a man of His word. Thus, if He says something, if He promises something, then He will most certainly do it. Again, following are a number related Bible verses for your personal consideration:

"God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?"
Numbers 23:19, KJV

"In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;"
Titus 1:2, KJV

"And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life."
1 John 2:25, KJV

"For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise."
Hebrews 10:36, KJV

"Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,"
2 Timothy 1:1, KJV

"But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe."
Galatians 3:22, KJV

"For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come."
1 Timothy 4:8, KJV

"And for this cause he [Jesus] s the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance."
Hebrews 9:15, KJV

So, then, upon our death and exit from this physical plane of existence, exactly what can Believers in Jesus Christ actually and truly expect? Well, for one thing, that hunk of human flesh which is currently weighing you down and giving you all kinds of health problems will be history, baby! Why? Because you are going to get a brand new model, and it will be very similar to the type of body which the Lord Himself received following His resurrection from the dead. Exactly how do we know this? Well again, all we need to do is turn to the Scriptures, because they provide us with a very clear and a very exciting answer. Consider the following Bible verses:

"Who shall change our vile body, THAT IT MAY BE FASHIONED LIKE UNTO HIS GLORIOUS BODY, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself."
Philippians 3:21, KJV

"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, WE SHALL BE LIKE HIM; for we shall see him as he is."
1 John 3:2, KJV

"Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, WE SHALL BE ALSO IN THE LIKENESS OF HIS RESURRECTION:"
Romans 6:4-5, KJV

"For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate TO BE CONFORMED TO THE IMAGE OF HIS SON, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren."
Romans 8:29, KJV

"For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle [meaning our physical body] were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens [meaning our spiritual body]. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle [meaning our physical body] do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life."
2 Corinthians 5:1-4, KJV

"There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed."
1 Corinthians 15:40-52, KJV

So cheer up, my friends! Perhaps you are old and struggling through what may possibly be the most difficult part of your entire life. However, if you truly believe in Jesus Christ, you already have a wonderful reward that is waiting for you on the Other Side, and that makes it all worth it, doesn't it?
