Seventeen Different Ways The Gospel Is Mentioned Throughout The New Testament, My Curious Analytical Mind, My Personal Joy In Studying The Scriptures, Sharing My Discoveries With My Online Friends, Legalists On The Social Networks, Are We Old Testament Jews Or New Testament Christians?, Exercise In Futility To Argue With Legalists, The Two Gospels Of The Pauline Extremists, My Motivation For Writing This Article, The Gospel By Any Other Name Is Still The Same Gospel, The Core Tenet Of The Gospel Remains The Same: Jesus Crucified And Resurrected For Forgiveness Of Sins And Eternal Life, Only Their Audience Was Different, A List Of All "Gospel" Verses, Concluding Remarks, BBB Suggested Reading List

As you may already know, in the New Testament of the King James Version of the Holy Bible, the Gospel is referred to in a variety of different ways. Its most simplest form is the phrase "the gospel" -- without the word "of", or any other descriptive words, placed after it -- along with its possessive form, "the gospel's". However, these are not the only ways in which the Gospel is referred to in the pages of the KJV New Testament. In fact, after conducting a deep study of the Holy Scriptures, I discovered that there are seventeen different ways in which the writers describe the Gospel. Of course, the phrase "the gospel" is used the most, with the others being used considerably less. Interestingly enough, most of the other phrases are used by the Apostle Paul in his various Epistles.

So, if you happen to be the curious type, let me now share with you an alphabetical list of all of the terms I was able to find, along with the phrase count for each of the terms. As far as I can tell, I found all of them. However, I am, of course, only human. So, if you do happen to find more than I have listed below, please let me know so that I can update my list in this article. Thanks!

02 = another gospel
02 = any other gospel
01 = Christ's gospel
03 = my gospel
03 = our gospel
01 = that gospel which I preach
01 = the everlasting gospel
01 = the glorious gospel of Christ
01 = the glorious gospel of the blessed God
51 = the gospel (by itself)
10 = the gospel of Christ
07 = the gospel of God
01 = the gospel of his Son
01 = the gospel of Jesus Christ
01 = the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ
02 = the gospel of peace
01 = the gospel of the circumcision [to Jews]
01 = the gospel of the grace of God
03 = the gospel of the kingdom
01 = the gospel of the kingdom of God
01 = the gospel of the uncircumcision [to Gentiles]
01 = the gospel of your salvation
03 = the gospel's
02 = this gospel
01 = this gospel of the kingdom

Perhaps you are wondering why I would even undertake such an extensive project. Well, aside from being a rather analytical and curious person, I simply love digging into God's Word and discovering new treasures to feed my own soul. Not only that, but I really enjoy sharing my latest Bible discoveries with all of my online friends. But that is not the only reason why I finally decided to write this article. Sadly, as I discuss in articles such as "Beware of the Pauline Extremists!" and likewise in "Jesus Christ or Yeshua Messiah?: More Christian Zionist Legalism", there are certain very legalistic people on the social networks who, in my view, are doing a lot of harm to the Body of Christ, due to their wayward -- and very divisive -- doctrines.

If you are a regular participant on the social networks, then you have more than likely come across these kinds of people. Some of them can be very argumentative, persistent and rude when it comes to expressing and promoting their particular doctrinal beliefs. For example, there appears to be quite a few pro-Israel, Zionist Christians who insist that in order for us to show respect for God, we must only refer to God the Father and His Son, Jesus, by certain ancient Jewish names. As I have mentioned before, the odd thing about this is the fact that the legalists who promote this belief argue amongst themselves regarding exactly what those two names are. I have seen this on Facebook a number of times.

Other Old Testament legalists will vehemently insist that we Christians are required to observe the Sabbath, keep all of the Mosaic Law -- meaning all 613 Commandments which we find in the Old Testament -- adhere to the Old Testament dietary laws, celebrate Jewish feast days, etc. Basically, they are trying to place New Testament Christians under bondage, and force us to act as if we are Old Testament Jews. Such people seem to ignore the fact that Jesus came to free us from such things, as I explain in a few of the articles which you will find listed at the end of this same article.

As I said, some of these legalists can be quite persistent and obnoxious. Personally, as I explain in my article called "Should Christians Engage in Doctrinal Debates?", I learned years ago that it is just not wise, and not worth wrangling with these kinds of people. You are not going to change their mind, and hopefully, they are not going to change your mind either. In short, it is an exercise in futility to even try to engage in a decent online conversation with any of them, because all they want to do is push their view across on you, just like obnoxious Jehovah's Witnesses, sad to say.

As I mentioned earlier, in my view, some of these legalists are doing a lot of harm to the Body of Christ, due to their wayward doctrines. As I discuss in the aforementioned "Beware of the Pauline Extremists!", one doctrine which is causing a lot of division and confusion concerns the belief held by some of these people that Jesus and the Apostles preached a very different Gospel from the Gospel which was preached by the Apostle Paul. In fact, some of these people insist that Paul is our ONLY Apostle, and the Gospel he preached is our ONLY Gospel. In short, according to them, anything that is written outside of Romans to Philemon simply is NOT for us modern-day Christians. Period.

My friends, this really alarms me, because as I explain in "Beware of the Pauline Extremists!", it gives me the strong impression that they are placing the Apostle Paul on a huge pedestal, and exalting his words above those of Jesus Christ in the four Gospels. So this is what motivated me to write this current article. I figured that if I shared with you all of the verses in the New Testament which use the word "gospel" in any of its seventeen different forms, similar to myself, you would come to see that there is really only ONE Gospel. You would become convinced that the Gospel by any other name in the New Testament is STILL the SAME Gospel.

Why do I say this? Because regardless of who preached it -- Jesus, Peter, Paul, or anyone else -- the core tenet of the Gospel remains the same. And exactly what is that tenet? It is quite obviously Jesus Christ crucified and resurrected for the forgiveness of our sins, with the hope of Eternal Life. Jesus spoke about it to His followers before the fact on multiple occasions. Peter, Paul and the rest of the Apostles and Disciples preached it after the fact. The only real difference was their audience: Peter to the Jews, and Paul to the Gentiles. To reiterate, it was the same message being preached by both, contrary to what those misguided Pauline extremists like to claim. Please refer to "Beware of the Pauline Extremists!" for more details regarding my reasoning.

To continue, the list below contains every single verse I was able to find in the New Testament where the Gospel is mentioned in one of its aforementioned seventeen different ways. Please note that for the sake of brevity, and to keep this article confined to one part, some of the verses do not form complete thoughts. My main goal here is simply to show you all the verses where the word "gospel" is mentioned. If you desire fuller context for each verse, then I encourage you to open your Bible and read the surrounding verses as well.

Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's foundation . . . Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel . . . For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel! For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me. What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel . . . "For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. For I suppose I was not a whit behind the very chiefest apostles. But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things. Have I committed an offence in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely?"
2 Corinthians 11:4-7, KJV

"I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter . . . But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?"
Galatians 2:2, 5, 7, 14, KJV

Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace . . . But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel . . . But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel . . . Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;"

"For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel . . . "For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain: But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention . . . But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts . . . But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children: So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us. For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God."
1 Thessalonians 2:1-2, 4, 7-9, KJV

"Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone; And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith:"
1 Thessalonians 3:1-2, KJV

"In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:"
2 Thessalonians 1:8, KJV

"Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ."
2 Thessalonians 2:14, KJV

1 Timothy 1:11, KJV

"Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:"

Hebrews 4:2, KJV

"Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into . . . But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you."
1 Peter 1:12, 25, KJV

"For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit . . . For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?"
1 Peter 4:6, 17, KJV

"And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,"
Revelation 14:6, KJV

And there you have it. As I said earlier, the Gospel by any other name is still the SAME Gospel; because no matter who preached it, where they preached it, or who they preached it to, the main point was "Repent of your unbelief, and believe in and receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, in order to receive forgiveness of your sins, and to inherit Eternal Life." I hope you agree.
