FALSE EXPECTATIONS

They tell us the great tribulation,
Is so close, just around the bend,
And the day of the Lord draws near,
This old world will come to an end.

But how many times have I heard it,
For over more than fifty long years,
There have been so many voices,
But they’ve all been misguided seers.

They point to some particular date,
Claiming their understanding is right,
But when that certain day arrives,
Well, Jesus is just nowhere in sight.

Yet those poor folks keep on singing,
The same song over and over again,
While their flocks continue asking,
Please tell us when oh when oh when.

Sadly, it still remains the same today,
Many false prophecies fill our ears,
Thus when the Lord fails to show up,
Will some believers come to tears?

Their expectations are so high now,
I see so much talk in every place,
God’s sheep will be disappointed,
It will really be such a big disgrace.

They’re praying for a fast train out,
All hoping Jesus will return soon,
Yet I’m forced to disagree with them,
Because I sing to a different tune.

Though I believe they are misguided,
What am I even supposed to do?
They just refuse to listen to wisdom,
It’s so very hard to even get through.

They are so convinced in their minds,
Disagree & they’ll say you are wrong,
You’re really another false teacher,
So please keep on moving along.

But one thing I know is for certain,
The truth time will always reveal,
And though they may be deceived now,
One day they’ll accept what is real.
