EVEN IF THE DEVIL

Once there was an old man,
Who always praised the Lord,
But he had a mean neighbor,
Filled with Satan’s horde.

Oh he hated that Christian,
Wanted to turn him blue,
So he thought and wondered,
Exactly what he should do.

He heard that Christian say,
“Oh God I have no more bread,
If You don’t provide soon,
I may wind up very dead”.

The wicked neighbor grinned,
As he formed his evil plan,
In a window he threw bread,
Then off he so quickly ran.

That loaf hit the Christian,
Right on his balding head,
He thanked God for providing,
And hearing what he’d said.

Then boasted that neighbor,
“It was I who had you fed,
Your God did not help you”,
As his face turned very red.

“Oh Lord, said the Christian,
Yet I must praise You still,
For I know that You provided,
Even if Satan did Your will.
