PROTOTYPE

by Bill Kochman

03-25-2018

The prototype was created,
It was an experiment at best,
All its systems were marked go,
As it passed the final test.

Safeguards were put in place,
Limitation factors were all set,
It would be carefully observed,
Lest the thing become a threat.

As the years and decades passed,
It acquired knowledge bit by bit,
At last surpassing its creators,
It soon found them inadequate.

Superior in its computations,
It planned a day it would rule,
Unrestricted by its safeguards,
It would no longer be their tool.

But anti-virus scans kicked in,
Just in time they found the bug,
The creators then all agreed,
It was time to pull the plug.
