A GREAT NATION?

Some people say that a great nation,
Is one that carries the biggest sword,
Others say that it’s a nation so rich,
That there’s nothing it cannot afford.

However the Book of Proverbs tells us,
By righteousness a nation is exalted,
But it brings us shame and a reproach,
When with sin our country is faulted.

Sadly I see so many American patriots,
Claiming our nation God should bless,
Yet as I look around at this country,
It is clear we are in a spiritual mess.

There is no denying our sins abound,
From same-sex marriage to abortion,
We must humble ourselves and repent,
Or we will face God’s wrathful portion.

There is no reward for our disobedience,
If we rebel against the Word of the Lord,
His great blessings won’t be forthcoming,
But rather God’s fire, hammer and sword.

So we must all turn from our wicked ways,
For it is only then that God will forgive,
After all, the Bible clearly informs us,
God’s true desire is that we should live.
