EXIT WITHOUT PEACE

by Bill Kochman

It’s your right to kill yourself,
If that’s what you want to do,
But before you take another puff,
You need to think this thing thru.

Years ago I once had a cousin,
And “once” is the key word to see,
He smoked and smoked for decades,
Until one day he just ceased to be.

But, you see, it was not so easy,
He did not peacefully go one day.
That man died suffering in agony,
As lung cancer ate his lungs away.
