LEGALIST’S LOAD

by Bill Kochman

You carry around such a load,
No doubt it is so very hard,
But I really have to wonder,
If you’ll make it another yard.

Oh how indeed you do struggle,
Just to keep every law of God,
I see all your tired footsteps,
In the places where you’ve trod.

Yes, trying with all you’ve got,
To be found worthy in His sight,
While you simply fail to grasp,
Your works won’t make you right.

It’s only through faith in Jesus,
That righteousness we can gain,
Your labor is a futile endeavor,
It is time to forsake your pain.

You simply need to be honest,
Admit you cannot keep them all,
With so many commandments,
It is a mountain just too tall.

So now place your trust in Jesus,
Let Him give you His blessed rest,
He bore the weight of sin for you,
And thus passed His Father’s test.
