MESMERIZED

Put your faith in the Lord alone,
Don’t ever place it in any man,
For if that person should fail,
Will you still be able to stand?

Yet so often we tend to do this,
A mistake we shouldn’t make,
Captivated by their charisma,
Until we learn they are a fake.

So filled with disappointment,
We sometimes abandon God,
Even becoming so rebellious,
That He must pull out His rod.

But the blame is truly our own,
Eyes were in the wrong place,
Mesmerized by a mere human,
Instead of beholding His face.

Now though our idol has fallen,
The Bible is nevertheless true,
So then returning to the Lord,
Is what we simply need to do.

Regardless if religion fails us,
Jesus remains faithful you see,
His holy promises are forever,
Yes, they’re binding for eternity.
