POWER TO THE PEOPLE

Don’t you love power outages?
No, they are really not so great,
Because then I have to worry,
About my dear computer’s fate.

Will databases get corrupted,
So that my website goes down?
And when I check out my blog,
Will there be anyone around?

But on Guam where I now live,
Outages are a simple fact of life,
Just pray one does not happen,
When you go to marry your wife.

The lights will suddenly go out,
And the organ music will stop,
As for the officiating preacher,
He’ll have to start from the top.

Then there’s watching a movie,
That brings tears to your eyes,
But bam! Out goes the power,
Gosh, not a very nice surprise!

Family dinner time now arrives,
Food is on your electric range,
Load shedding then strikes you,
Half-cooked food is so strange.

You hope to take a hot shower,
Before you jump into your bed,
Your hair is all shampooed up,
Water heater just went dead.

Bedtime story hour has started,
Kids picked out a favorite book,
Power company has other plans,
You’ll have to wait Captain Hook.

No doubt you can obviously see,
Life on Guam is very exciting,
Well unless you’re not from here,
Then it may not seem so inviting.
