SLOW DECAY

by Bill Kochman

09-21-2020

There was heard a great rumble,
It reverberated across the land,
The dissatisfaction was growing,
Soon it would be so out of hand.

There were dark forces prodding,
Spreading much paranoia and fear,
Who would win the next election,
The answer was not yet very clear.

Big money boys were each pushing,
Their pawns were now all in place,
Just waiting for the right moment,
When they’d try to make their case.

The nation’s disunity was evident,
Each was on the left or the right,
No one wanted to yield any ground,
Convinced they could win the fight.

But while they were busy arguing,
The proud nation crumbled within,
Now to me it seems quite possible,
It’s God’s judgment due to our sin.

For so many seem to have forgotten,
What had made this nation so great,
We turned away from God’s precepts,
So we must prepare to meet our fate.
