Prophet Jeremiah
If ever there is a story regarding faithfulness to be found in the pages of the Bible, the story of the Prophet Jeremiah is certainly one of them. As you may know, the Lord called Jeremiah when he was a young boy. Of course, the boy Jeremiah felt totally incapable of doing the job which God required of him. Consider these verses: "Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child. But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD. Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth." Jeremiah 1:4-9, KJV As we know, from that point forward, Jeremiah proclaimed God's words to the people of Israel for about the next forty years, from the reign of King Josiah, all the way up to the reign of King Zedekiah, at which time the conquest by Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar occurred. Jeremiah in fact saw his words fulfilled when Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed. His was certainly not an easy job. Jeremiah made many enemies with his own people, and he was accused of being a liar, false prophet and traitor to his nation. He was likewise thrown into prison, and sunk in a mud pit up to his armpits. So again, if there is a story regarding faithfulness and perseverance in the face of adversity, the story of Jeremiah is certainly it. _________________ Bill Kochman Bill’s Bible Basics wordweaver777@gmail.com https://www.billkochman.com https://www.csnet.live |
