AGAINST THE GRAIN

While I could just be like everybody else,
And speak and preach the same refrain,
That’s not what God has asked me to do,
No, He called me to go against the grain.

Now I don’t do it just so I can be different,
And it is not that I only want to complain,
But when I examine the Holy Scriptures,
I just understand them in a different vein.

So many folks mirror what they’ve heard,
They don’t study the Bible for themselves,
Merely repeating their church’s traditions,
While the Bible sits dusty on their shelves.

But as for me, I am really just not like them,
I so enjoy digging deeply into God’s Word,
Then after the Holy Spirit has guided me,
I share all those things which I have heard.

But, you see, that is where the rub comes,
I teach stuff that others don’t want to hear,
If it’s contrary to their own church doctrine,
Well then they won’t even give me their ear.

But God did not call me to be a manpleaser,
And political correctness just isn’t my style,
Thus even tho some folks speak against me,
I simply won’t turn down my preaching dial.

By God’s grace I shall continue on this path,
Regardless of naysayers who do not agree,
Tho condemnation may be thrown my way,
I will still be what God has chosen me to be.
