Jesus prayed for the Church to be one,
Just as He and His most holy Father are,
Yet tragically as I begin to look around,
I cannot help but see we’ve drifted so far.
Apostle Paul also advised God’s Church,
To speak with one mouth and one mind,
But that old Satan had his wicked plans,
And sent in divisive, argumentative kind.
Yes, how he started sifting the brethren,
Using legalism as his weapon of choice,
And within a matter of a few short years,
Brethren no longer spoke with one voice.
Man worship then invaded God’s flocks,
And strange doctrines began to abound,
What had been a united, powerful body,
No longer stood on solid, unified ground.
Many centuries have passed since then,
And this division has only grown worse,
It so saddens me to see how Christians,
Now destroy each other verse by verse.
Yes, we’ve been sifted & have so drifted,
We’re no longer the Church Jesus found,
If the Lord were to visit our current time,
Do you think He’d want to stick around?
