POLE OR POST?

by Bill Kochman

10-10-2020

Once there was a pole stuck in a hole,
On the shores of the nearby sea,
It was not amused but very confused,
Not quite sure what it should be.

It wanted to boast that it was a post,
But some folks just didn’t agree,
One thing it knew that had to be true,
Was it came from some kind of tree.

So now here stood this thing of wood,
As the waves all lapped its side,
The sand grew thin as water came in,
And the pole went out with the tide.
