My dear friends, if there is one thing I have learned from my five plus decades of serious Bible study, it is that time most certainly does NOT change the truth of the Scriptures. And, of course, the sound, Bible-based truth is what every single Christian should both strive to discover, and embrace once it has been found. Nothing can compare to the straight scriptural truth. Certainly not the oft times misguided and confusing doctrines of men which lead so many people astray in our modern day. If you don't believe me, just check out the social networks. You will easily and quickly get your fill of some of the strangest, most offbeat interpretations of God's Word you have ever seen. If you are like me, some of it will absolutely make your jaw drop!
The Holy Bible has quite a bit to say regarding the eternal, sure, immutable -- or unchanging -- and trustworthy nature of both God and His Word. For example, consider the following group of Bible verses which are some of my personal favorites:
"God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?"
Numbers 23:19, KJV
"LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven."
Psalm 119:89, KJV
"I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him. That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past."
Ecclesiastes 3:14-15, KJV
"Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:"
Isaiah 46:9-10, KJV
"God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged."
Romans 3:4, KJV
"In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;"
Titus 1:2, KJV
"Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:"
Hebrews 6:17-18, KJV
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, WITH WHOM IS NO VARIABLENESS, NEITHER SHADOW OF TURNING."
James 1:17, KJV
"We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:"
2 Peter 1:19, KJV
Regarding James 1:17 above, please consider that our own Sun shines very brightly, as well as consistently, every single day of our lives. It is something that we can trust. We know that the Sun will not be here today, and then suddenly and inexplicably be gone tomorrow, right? Well, God and His Word are the very same way. They are indeed our constants. God is indeed reliable, and His Word is also to be trusted, just as we also trust that the Sun will rise when we wake up in the morning. That is what the Apostle James is talking about in that verse. While the Moon may vary in its appearance and transition through different phases throughout each month, the Sun does not do that. That is how God is as well. He is always there. He is our reliable, constant companion, and it is such a comfort to us, isn't it?
Having said that, recently, a question arose on some of the social networks -- such as Facebook -- regarding the proper interpretation of Luke 21:36. This particular verse states the following:
"Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man."
Luke 21:36, KJV
In a word, my friends, as I point out in BBB articles such as "The Woman in the Wilderness and the 144,000", Luke 21:36 most certainly does NOT apply to modern-day Christians. It was not spoken to us, or written to us. It was spoken to, directed to and meant for Jesus' listeners of the First Century who would experience the very things which the Lord described to them in that same chapter, and in other Gospel chapters where the same Olivet Discourse is likewise mentioned. By the way, for those of you who may not be aware of it, that particular sermon is called the Olivet Discourse within theological circles, simply because it was delivered by Jesus as He and the Disciples sat on the Mount of Olives.
As I point out in a growing list of articles and series here on the Bill’s Bible Basics website, a huge and very troubling problem today is that millions of Futurist-leaning Christians take literally entire chapters of the Bible completely out of context. They totally distort the meaning of what has been written in those chapters and verses by the prophets, kings and apostles. They even twist Jesus' own words so that they conform to what they want to believe, even if it is not the truth, or what Jesus really meant.
Either knowingly, or ignorantly, they change the who, what, where and when of many Bible verses, and they erroneously apply them to us today, when they should NOT be doing that. As I amply explain in other articles such as "Fight Against Futurism", that's exactly what the false doctrine known as Futurism does. It takes already-fulfilled Bible prophecy, and applies it to our modern day as if it has not occurred yet, when such is most certainly not the case.
This ubiquitous, deceptive, false doctrine has led so many Christians away from Scriptural truth. Sadly, this likewise includes misinterpreting Luke 21 -- where the aforementioned verse is found -- Matthew 24, Mark 13, as well as the Daniel prophecies, the Book of Revelation, and more. Worse yet, not only do such Christians think that they understand all of it properly, but then they go online and teach their deception to other naive and gullible Christians as well, thus making the problem even worse. Thus the deception grows. I was just reminded of the following Bible verses:
"But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, DECEIVING, AND BEING DECEIVED."
2 Timothy 3:13, KJV
"And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, HE KNOWETH NOTHING YET AS HE OUGHT TO KNOW."
1 Corinthians 8:2, KJV
"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, GIVING HEED TO SEDUCING SPIRITS, AND DOCTRINES OF DEVILS; SPEAKING LIES IN HYPOCRISY; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;"
1 Timothy 4:1-2, KJV
"If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; HE IS PROUD, KNOWING NOTHING, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: FROM SUCH WITHDRAW THYSELF."
1 Timothy 6:3-5, KJV
"From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; Desiring to be teachers of the law; UNDERSTANDING NEITHER WHAT THEY SAY, NOR WHEREOF THEY AFFIRM."
1 Timothy 1:6-7, KJV
"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they HEAP TO THEMSELVES TEACHERS, HAVING ITCHING EARS;"
2 Timothy 4:3, KJV
"Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing YE ARE DULL OF HEARING. For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil."
Hebrews 5:11-14, KJV
"But there were false prophets also among the people, EVEN AS THERE SHALL BE FALSE TEACHERS AMONG YOU, WHO PRIVILY SHALL BRING IN DAMNABLE HERESIES, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction."
2 Peter 2:1, KJV
"And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest [twist, pervert, distort], as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction."
2 Peter 3:15-16, KJV
Please note that I am NOT suggesting that all of these people are evil, or even that they are intentionally seducing folks with their lies. While some of them do it intentionally, as I mentioned a moment ago, many Christians do it out of their own ignorance, because they don't take the time to seriously study the Scriptures for themselves. In other words, many of them simply choose to believe whatever they are told and taught by their pastor or favorite Bible teacher. They foolishly place their faith and trust in that person without giving it second thought.
Why do so many modern Christians do this? Aside from their own spiritual laziness and lack of personal initiative, they also do it under the misguided assumption that their pastor or teacher knows what he is talking about, when in reality, he may just be promoting the doctrines of his particular church and denomination. In short, tradition wins over Bible truth in many cases so that the pastor or teacher will only promote the party line. That is, if he really wants to keep his job, sad to say. It is canned religion, plain and simple, and the people who have itching ears love to have it so, as we see by the following Bible verse:
"The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and MY PEOPLE LOVE TO HAVE IT SO: and what will ye do in the end thereof?"
Jeremiah 5:31, KJV
Tragically, a totally false, twisted prophetic narrative that is based on a very distorted interpretation of the Scriptures, has been unwisely created by such Futurist-leaning Christians. Sadly, as I mentioned earlier, millions of modern Christians have now been deceived by it, and they do not even realize it. This is one reason why I wrote the article entitled "Are You Deceived and Don't Even Know It?". My dear friends, if you're familiar with my body of work, then you may possibly already know that for many years now, it has been my personal policy to not engage in online doctrinal debates. Rather than do that -- because I view doctrinal debates as a waste of time, and an exercise in futility -- I prefer to share my personal beliefs here on the BBB website, away from all of that hot-headed and mean-spirited, doctrinal bickering that has become a hallmark of some of the social networks, Facebook in particular.
So then, if you have an earnest desire to better understand why I have stated these things, and want to actually see all of the Scriptural and historical proof which has convinced me to believe as I currently do, then I invite you to visit the web page below.
