SLOW BURN

by Bill Kochman

12-17-2018

Some preachers burn brightly,
Oh how the crowds love them so,
But often some years later,
We wonder where did they go?

It’s better to be a slow burn,
Than a no burn down in defeat,
It is better to plod slowly,
So the race we can complete.

It takes the Divine Spirit,
Just to keep our spark alive,
For if we try in the flesh,
No doubt we will not survive.

Only the Lord can keep us,
Straight on the Gospel track,
By His Power we push forward,
Though that Devil may attack.

And if we just keep running,
No matter what he may send,
God has given us a promise,
A crown we’ll have in the end.

SKINNY SOUL — a poem and song by Bill Kochman

SKINNY SOUL

by Bill Kochman

11-19-2017

He was a man of the world,
Who acquired fortune & fame,
He spent his entire life,
Just to make himself a name.

Sparing nothing and no one,
He climbed to the very top,
But one night a heart attack,
Brought his sad life to a stop.

Thus He bowed before God,
A wretched, skinny old soul,
Deceived by worldly pursuits,
He’d missed the greatest goal.

SKINNY OLD DUDE

by Bill Kochman

05-05-2014

I am just a skinny old dude,
Some say too sharp, a little too rude.
But I cannot help how I was made,
Designed before the Earth was laid.

‘Twas God who crafted my every part,
Knew what I’d be like from the start.
A mere vessel of clay in His Hand,
Is that not how we all began?

We were made for His own pleasure,
Within us His Spirit, is our treasure.
Someday to God we shall return,
For this we all patiently yearn.

SKIN

by Bill Kochman

01-08-2019

Oh just look at our skin,
Where do I even begin?
Even when we are rough,
God has made it so tough.

Tho we may take a spill,
Our skin is quick to heal.
Holding everything inside,
I so like my outer hide!

It is a miracle for sure,
My skin I thank God for.
While mine may be white,
Yours is black as night.

Or somewhere in between,
God has His color scheme.
Tho we don’t look the same,
For everyone Jesus came.

Beauty is only skin deep,
Our soul He wants to keep.
Alas, it will peel away,
I’ll walk in Spirit someday.

SICK OF THE SHARKS

by Bill Kochman

12-2-16

I’m sick and tired of the media,
Just hush now and give it a rest,
The president-elect won it fairly,
The man passed every legal test.

Yet though he took the election,
The sharks just continue to bite,
They twist all their news stories,
And refuse to report what is right.

Enough now, stop all your whining,
The nation has made a clear choice,
Even tho you lie, distort and attack,
Electors heard the people’s voice.

SHORT-CHANGED

by Bill Kochman

01-02-2017

I don’t care how hard you try,
It is just never going to work,
All those good things that you do,
Won’t earn you any heavenly perk.

I am really not out to upset you,
Or to make you become deranged,
But your “good works” won’t do it,
You’ll find yourself short-changed.

It is only the price paid by Jesus,
That is enough to meet God’s bill,
So please accept His loving ransom,
And one day you’ll live on Holy Hill.

SHOOTER

by Bill Kochman

02-22-2018

I ran from the shooter,
He was just down the hall,
So many gunshots fired,
I heard his victims fall.

Scrambling to take cover,
I feared I might be next,
God don’t let him find me,
I sent my family a text.

Then it was suddenly over,
But for sobs and tears,
How to forget this day,
I’ll be scarred for years.

SHEPHERD — a poem and song by Bill Kochman

#Poetry #Poem

SHEPHERD

by Bill Kochman

04-19-2019

In John 10 Jesus plainly tells us,
About one Shepherd and one flock,
He says He is the Good Shepherd,
Yet some of another shepherd talk.

Likewise also in the 23rd Psalm,
Young David writes about the same,
The Lord was the king’s Shepherd,
But today many use another name.

Hebrews 13 too clearly informs us,
Jesus is the shepherd of us sheep,
Still others insist in a new one,
Why don’t God’s Word they all keep?

Even Peter in his first Epistle,
Points to Jesus just like the rest,
Christ is our Shepherd and Bishop,
For He alone passed Father’s test.

The Lord was smitten and afflicted,
On a Roman cross our sins He bore,
Enduring such great pain and agony,
As sharp nails thru His flesh tore.

But without the shedding of blood,
Our Salvation couldn’t be achieved,
Once His mission was accomplished,
His Spirit His Father then received.

But then exactly three days later,
Jesus gave proof of what He had said,
Jews and Romans were so astounded,
When Jesus Christ rose from the dead.

Thus He became our true Redeemer,
Freeing us from the penalties of sin,
With a clear promise of Life Eternal,
If we’ll repent and accept Him within.

So away with Rome and that deceiver,
He is no vicar, shepherd or anything,
Nor has he power to mediate for us,
I look to Jesus alone who is my King.

SHARPSHOOTER

by Bill Kochman

08-21-2014

Some call me raw, quick on the draw,
Because I never sugar-coat the truth,
I don’t intend, my friends to offend,
But alas, some still go through the roof.

I take no blame, and I have no shame,
I just share God’s Word as it is stated,
Whether you get mad, or become sad,
I know I will still end up quite hated.

But that is okay, it is part of my day,
I’ve been down this same road before,
The problem is you, you’ll end up blue,
If God’s Word you choose to ignore.

SEX AND MONEY

by Bill Kochman

04-07-2014

What a Wonderful World was our song,
But something’s gone terribly wrong,
Sin and corruption all around I see,
So many people are living in misery.

Peter robs Paul so he gets to the top,
Oh when will this madness ever stop?
Just what have we all been reduced to?
And what have we all become used to?

It’s just sex and money, sex and money,
Nothing about it is really that funny.
Yes, it is actually quite a sad tragedy,
Isn’t it time to get on our bended knee?

SERMON OR EXAMPLE?

by Bill Kochman

05-12-2014

Do you try to live what you preach,
Not a hypocrite in any way?
Do you back up with real actions,
All the nice things that you say?

People have heard so many sermons,
They know all about the Good Book,
They want to see a true example,
When at your life they take a look.

Words are quite easily spoken,
Doing as Jesus said is what counts,
Lacking a sample with our sermon,
To nothing our fine preaching amounts.

SEPTIC TANK

by Bill Kochman

11-11-2014

Your mouth is just like a septic tank,
Each word you spoke, it really stank.
Nothing good, just a bunch of trash,
Oh why must you always be so rash?

You say an f-bomb every other word,
The dirtiest mouth I’ve ever heard.
I don’t mind if you make your point,
But your tongue is so out of joint.

Let me be clear, now listen dude,
I don’t like folks who are so rude.
Clean your mouth, have some class,
Or your conversations I will pass.

SELFISHNESS

by Bill Kochman

01-04-2017

We humans are so selfish,
Our big rule is “me first”,
Personal desires and ego,
Are an unquenchable thirst.

What is best for ourselves,
Always ahead of the line,
If other people get hurt,
Oh well, that is just fine.

But this way is contrary,
To Heaven’s Law of Love,
We should help each other,
And not just push and shove.

SELF-RIGHTEOUS!

by Bill Kochman

09-23-2014

The world is full of so many sinners,
Someone should talk to those folks,
They’re all such losers, not winners.
I’m so glad I’m not like those blokes.

Oh what a self-righteous perspective,
To think you’re better than the rest,
Perhaps you need God’s corrective,
Would you even pass His moral test?

Please note that all are born in sin,
There’s none righteous upon the Earth,
But through Christ’s Blood we can win,
For through Him we receive our worth.

SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM

by Bill Kochman

12-06-2016

Well I heard you complained,
That your table was so bare,
You even accused the Lord,
Said that He didn’t even care.

But I have a quick question,
So now let’s be really fair,
Did you get down on knees,
Reach out to Him in prayer?

Our God will indeed provide,
On this I can surely swear,
If we seek first the Kingdom,
And share His Word everywhere.

SEEING BUT NO SIGHT

by Bill Kochman

12-08-2016

Everyone of course has two eyes,
But not all people can truly see,
Physical blindness is one thing,
But I’m talking about spirituality.

There’s a deep kind of blindness,
Maybe worse than having no sight,
It is when we ignore God’s Word,
And refuse to walk in His Light.

Jesus exposed this same sickness,
The Prophets of old did as well,
If you truly wish to be delivered
Listen, so God won’t have to yell.

SEASON OF LIARS

by Bill Kochman

04-05-2019

The season of liars is almost here,
Better take cover for the next year.
Piles of speeches some full of fear,
So be careful what goes in your ear.

Away from issues the pols will veer,
To nonessentials they will all steer.
Folks will be happy, some will cheer,
Others will disagree, and only jeer.

Yes, campaign season is growing near,
When they say what you want to hear.
But let’s be honest, and let’s be clear,
Tho we suffer they won’t shed a tear.

They want your vote to move up a tier,
Once they’re in they give you a sneer.

SCORN THE PORN

by Bill Kochman

12-05-2016

You thought it would be easy,
You could do it on the sneak,
Wait till no one’s looking,
Then just take a little peek.

But all those lovely ladies,
They won’t leave you alone,
So you’ve got hot girlie pics,
Hidden on your mobile phone.

Your lust got the best of you,
Now just look at your big mess,
And if your wife finds you out,
There will be a lot of stress.

SCHOOL DILEMMA

by Bill Kochman

11-30-2016

They say we come from monkeys,
And my ancestor beat his chest,
So if I dare to mark otherwise,
I will no doubt fail this test.

Earth is billions of years old,
So-called smart ones do believe,
If I attempt to contradict them,
A very bad grade I will receive.

I really find it so aggravating,
They instruct against my belief,
Pressuring me to think like them,
Oh God, I need some quick relief.

SCATTER THE SEED

by Bill Kochman

07-03-2020

It is only the straight Word of God,
That can truly change people’s lives,
For some folks it brings redemption,
While for others it is sharp knives.

Throughout the whole New Testament,
Yes, they constantly quoted the Word,
But today we hear a different story,
Wild ideas which I find quite absurd.

Internet rumors indeed are so plenty,
If unproven theories are your goal,
But they won’t draw anyone to Christ,
No, they won’t ever win a single soul.

It is time to forsake all that nonsense,
Just give people what they really need,
Forget the rumors, reach in your Bible,
And scatter the Lord’s precious seed.
