EAGLES NEST

by Bill Kochman

02-05-2018

When I was young many years ago,
I was quite shy and introverted,
So I’d crawl up in my own shell,
Whenever mean things were blurted.

Why some kids acted in that way,
I just couldn’t really understand,
There seemed to be no love anywhere,
Like a ship grounded on dry land.

For years I watched as we grew up,
Some kids became worse than before,
More aggressive, picking on peers,
I wished there was some exit door.

But as I matured I came to see,
That I was different from the rest,
They were eagles fighting for food,
While I was a dove in their nest.

Some of you no doubt felt the same,
You sensed that you didn’t belong,
That is because God set us apart,
Or do you just think I am wrong?

DYING STARS

by Bill Kochman

08-09-2020

If you really want to feel your age,
Look at stars who have been the rage.
Growing up, some you knew quite well,
Maybe they got you under their spell.

Some in TV shows, others in a movie,
Man, you thought they were so groovy.
Some great rock band, or a video star,
Their performance left your mouth ajar.

Years have passed and now they’re gone,
No more movies, no, not a single song.
It makes us realize life is so fleeting,
Reminds us death we’ll all be greeting.

What we have done is what will remain,
Did we bring someone joy, or only pain?
Old age arrives, life comes to a close,
God will now judge us by what we chose.

Did we accept Christ, did we let Him in,
Or did we rebel and continue in our sin?
God’s Word says that if we choose right,
We will shine like a star in the night.

DYING OF IMPROVEMENTS

by Bill Kochman

01-08-2017

Things are always getting better,
At least so they say in the news,
But if you take a look around,
It can really give you the blues.

Doc said he was getting better,
But the man kept feeling worse,
He must’ve died of improvements,
They took him away in a hearse.

And so is this world around us,
So diseased yet some look away,
We need to get right with Father,
He’ll burn up this place someday.

DYING GRACE

by Bill Kochman

09-01-2014

We say that we would die for Him,
But is this just a boast in vain?
We’ve become so soft in our faith,
Would we really endure the pain?

Or would we be like Saint Peter,
Who fled when the going got rough,
Now if we are brutally honest,
Perhaps we aren’t really so tough.

God gives His Grace to the dying,
You see, but we aren’t dying yet,
He gives us faith for each hour,
It’s this we should never forget.

DUST, DUST

by Bill Kochman

05-05-2014

Dust, dust, that is all we are,
Nothing to leave your mouth ajar.
But our pride always finds a way,
Puffed up in the things we say.

Oh we are the greatest on Earth,
Overestimating our true worth.
With our words we love to deceive,
Much as Satan did with poor Eve.

Thus God must bring us down low,
Our foolish vanity He must show.
To Him belong honor and glory,
This is a key point of the story.

DUMP THE CARDS DUDE

by Bill Kochman

08-23-2014

As the Word says, the rich rule over the poor,
And the borrower becomes servant to the lender,
But if you don’t take heed to this wise advice,
You will dig your own grave, you big spender.

So many crazy people today, go out of their way,
Because they must have instant gratification,
But if you foolishly spend, as if there’s no end,
You’ll wind up in a heap of financial frustration.

So then better it is, to tear up all your cards,
And to embark on a much more simpler existence,
It may take you more time, to save dime by dime,
But you will get what you want with persistence.

DUAL CITIZENSHIP

by Bill Kochman

01-01-2017

You drink your beer, salute your flag,
You’ll even kill folks in a war,
But insofar, as sharing your faith,
Your standing is rather poor.

So patriotic, about your nation,
You fly high the red, white and blue,
But when it comes to Kingdom above,
We hear very little from you.

You need to get your story straight,
Decide where your loyalties stand,
Are you a citizen of this Earth,
Or of God’s Heavenly promised land?

DRUNK AS A SKUNK

by Bill Kochman

08-22-2014

Drunk as a skunk we all say,
If you have too many a drink,
Down your booze, you will lose,
And you won’t be able to think.

Get in your car, you won’t go far,
You will just smash into a pole,
Bones will break, head will ache,
And you won’t end up very whole.

Blood flowing red, almost dead,
Your life quickly passes you by,
Darkness sets in, time grows thin,
And then God angrily asks you why.

DOWN, DOWN

by Bill Kochman

01-13-2017

He sank down, oh so very down,
As the light quickly raced away,
He had always rejected the Lord,
And now he would have to pay.

Many scenes passed by his eyes,
As he fell deeper into that hole,
He saw folks reaching out to him,
Trying to save his miserable soul.

But his pride made him say “No!”,
No God would ever force his hand,
His fear grew great, almost there,
He’d never see that Heavenly Land.

DON’T WORRY

by Bill Kochman

05-23-2018

So many times we often fear,
Things whispered in our ear.
Or we read stuff in the news,
That gives us negative views.

The web too fills with fright,
Keeping us up half the night.
All these voices give us worry,
Makes us want our head to bury.

No more bad news, it’s enough,
Our life here is already tough.
We need good news, not the bad,
It brings us down, makes us sad.

But we can rise above it all,
If we just give the Lord a call.
He’ll comfort us in our despair,
For Jesus knows our every hair.

He will always work things out,
For that’s what He is all about.
So if you are about to bust,
Turn to the one you can trust.

He will listen, won’t turn away,
Get on your knees, begin to pray.
Before long His peace will come,
And your worries? They were dumb.

DON’T TAKE THAT TOKE

by Bill Kochman

12-05-2016

When people are really young,
Peers say smoking is so cool,
But so often many years later,
They see they played the fool.

When they lay dying of cancer,
They remember that first smoke,
And how they wish to dear God,
They had never taken that toke.

Dying of lung cancer isn’t easy,
Your body fills with great pain,
Morphine can only do so much,
It will almost drive you insane.

DON’T SCOOP THE POOP

by Bill Kochman

09-11-2019

Say, did you hear the latest scoop?
No need to worry, it’s all just poop.
The news shovels that crap all day,
Peddling whatever they want to say.

Sensationalism always beats out facts,
Just watch the wolves grind their axe.
There’s an agenda, it’s plain to see,
Beware! They’ll leave you in misery.

Make a profit, and increase the view,
It does not matter if it’s not true.
Raking their victims through the mud,
They’re not happy till they draw blood.

Champions of justice? No, I think not,
What they publish is so full of rot.
So if you read it, please sift it well,
Don’t let them get you under their spell.

DON’T GET WHAT WE DESERVE — a poem and song by Bill Kochman

DON’T GET WHAT WE DESERVE

by Bill Kochman

12-12-2016

You won’t understand God’s Mercy,
Till you see how evil Satan can be,
That fiend condemns us down to Hell,
While the Lord can set us all free.

You see, people really do deserve,
What the Devil would send our way,
And we would have to pay the price,
Except that Jesus saved the day.

So then, as dirty as we all may be,
Covered in the red of our own sin,
If we accept God’s Mercy thru Jesus,
Thru Heaven’s Gate He’ll let us in.

DON’T FLAUNT IT! — a poem and song by Bill Kochman

DON’T FLAUNT IT!

by Bill Kochman

05-22-2014

There was a man with an exhibitionist wife,
Who caused her poor hubby nothing but strife,
Barely clad she walked streets with danger rife,
Only to be met by the end of a rapist’s knife,
And thus that foolish woman lost her dear life.

The lesson in this poem is really quite clear,
Don’t you be like that vain gal, give an ear,
If you purposely dress to tempt and to flaunt,
That’s what some men will think you truly want,

Intended or not, you will inflame their desire,
They’ll mistake you for just a woman for hire,
And there may be no escape from such a fire,
Indeed your situation will soon be quite dire.

DON’T COMPLAIN

by Bill Kochman

01-06-2017

Now I may not know a lot,
But of one thing I am sure,
God loves His own Family,
So we’re never totally poor.

We may not always have a lot,
But our basic needs are met,
Using wisely what He gives,
We should stay out of debt.

If we let any greed step in,
Complain ’bout all He’s given,
He may choose to take away,
Then it won’t be easy livin’.

DON’T BE ASHAMED

by Bill Kochman

12-06-2016

We cannot be like Apostle Peter,
Who greatly feared for his life,
He denied knowing the Lord Jesus,
Conviction cut him like a knife.

Peter departed in haste weeping,
So depressed by what he had done,
But then Jesus later forgave him,
For sinless folks there are none.

If we are ashamed of our Savior,
The Gospel warns about our fate,
Jesus will say He doesn’t know us,
We may not make it in the Gate.

DOCTRINAL DEBATES II

by Bill Kochman

02-02-2018

Let me tell you that Satan is so smart,
He knew just how to get in our midst,
You see, some six thousand years ago,
God’s Word he began to wrest and twist.

Eve was that serpent’s very first victim,
But that gal was definitely not his last,
The Bible says during the First Century,
Killing false doctrines was a hard task.

Today the situation is even more tragic,
As brethren fight to prove they’re right,
So many have forgotten all about love,
But sly Satan, oh he stays out of sight.

He’s just so happy to see the division,
Because a divided Church is so weak,
Please take heed to this my warning,
Ask God to keep you humble and meek.

Yes, be persuaded in your own mind,
As we’re advised to do by Apostle Paul,
But regarding those doctrinal debates,
Be wise and don’t engage in them at all.

DOCTRINAL DEBATES

by Bill Kochman

08-28-2014

The Devil is having a heyday,
Throughout our Christian land,
Brother fights against brother,
Over their doctrinal stand.

Angry exchanges become rampant,
Pride and ego come to the fore,
Everyone wants to be so right,
Humility they just all ignore.

But I refuse to engage them,
It is just not my cup of tea,
Maybe someday they’ll realize,
It’s an exercise in futility.

DIVINE MERCIES

by Bill Kochman

12-20-2016

It is of the LORD’S mercies,
That we are not consumed,
It’s not due to our goodness,
If that is what you assumed.

Only because of dear Jesus,
Does God look the other way,
Our sins He just blots out,
We’re clean on Judgment Day.

So thank Him for compassion,
As unworthy as you may be,
And be merciful to others,
So God’s love they can see.

DIVIDED NATION

by Bill Kochman

06-22-2018

Oh just look at our country now,
It’s in such a terrible state,
The mass media has gone wild,
Liberals are filled with hate.

And as for freedom of speech,
It is seriously being abused.
I am filled with so much shock,
Each time I read the daily news.

I see no respect for our leaders,
Tongues that spew constant rage,
I find it all quite disgusting,
Why can’t people act their age?

Alas, in all of my many years,
It’s never been this bad before,
They’ve declared open warfare,
It so worries me to the core.

Now Jesus said it quite clearly,
We must all really understand,
If divided against ourselves,
Our nation simply cannot stand.
