“If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin . . . But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.” John 15:22, 25, KJV

They say that with age also comes wisdom,
But I must wonder if that is really so true,
It seems that my sins just keep on piling up,
Oh dear Lord, just what am I supposed to do?
But truthfully speaking, our God is so smart,
He knows what we need each step of the way,
For each time we fall, it breaks our pride,
So that we lean on what His Word has to say.
Crushed by the weight of all of our mistakes,
We at last humbly prostrate before our King,
He extends His Grace as was part of His plan,
Because Jesus Christ already did everything.
In all of the following verses, the word “earnest” is derived from the Koine Greek word “arrabon”. Thayer’s Greek English Lexicon defines this ancient word as meaning “money which in purchases is given as a pledge or downpayment that the full amount will subsequently be paid.” In other words, the spark of the Holy Spirit which we each receive in this current life is sort of like a downpayment, preview or sample of the full life in the Spirit which we shall someday experience in the wonderful City of God, New Jerusalem. It is just a foretaste of what is to come.
“Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the EARNEST OF THE SPIRIT in our hearts.” 2 Corinthians 1:21-22, KJV
“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the EARNEST OF OUR INHERITANCE until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1:13-14, KJV
“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle [meaning our physical body] were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the EARNEST OF THE SPIRIT. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 4:18-5:8, KJV
“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;” Titus 2:13, KJV

“For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.” Luke 9:26, KJV

Please note that in these verses, the words “profession” and “professed” are derived from the Koine Greek words “homologeo” and “homologia” which mean to confess, agree with, concede or assent.
“Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;” Hebrews 3:1, KJV
“Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Hebrews 4:14-15, KJV
