While we once may have been strangers to God before we knew and came to Christ, we no longer are:
“That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world . . . Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;”
Ephesians 2:12, 19, KJV
That is why we are strangers and pilgrims on the Earth; that is, because our True Home is really in Heaven:
“These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.”
Hebrews 11:13-16, KJV
Because of this fact, we will not follow the voice of strangers on the Earth — false prophets and deceivers — we will only follow our one True Shepherd, Jesus Christ:
“And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.”
John 10:5, KJV
As we follow our one True Shepherd, let us endeavor to abstain from fleshly lusts, that we may please our Heavenly Father:
“Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;”
1 Peter 2:11, KJV
