EAGLES NEST
by Bill Kochman

When I was young many years ago,
I was quite shy and introverted,
So I’d crawl up in my own shell,
Whenever mean things were blurted.
Why some kids acted in that way,
I just couldn’t really understand,
There seemed to be no love anywhere,
Like a ship grounded on dry land.
For years I watched as we grew up,
Some kids became worse than before,
More aggressive, picking on peers,
I wished there was some exit door.
But as I matured I came to see,
That I was different from the rest,
They were eagles fighting for food,
While I was a dove in their nest.
Some of you no doubt felt the same,
You sensed that you didn’t belong,
That is because God set us apart,
Or do you just think I am wrong?
